I have been sailing a Macgregor 26M and recently downsized to a 19M to be left at the lake. I am now hunting for a fixed keel for the chuck. I came across a Yamaha 24MS and I was wondering if anyone had advice on the pros and cons of this boat over a 25MKII which I am also considering? I gather the 25 is built for more sail and more speed. I like the fact that the 24 has the motor in a more conventional location. Any advice would be appreciated.

Haven't seen much info (if any) on the Y24 over the years. Check out Bob's YAMAHAsailboats.org for info on both boats as well as ALL Yamahas. The Y24 was marketed as a Motor Sailor and the Y25 a IOR formula racer/cruiser. I own a Y25mkII and prefer the performace aspects of the boat. I'll admit I am envious of the Y24's Dodger/ windshield as the 25 is a wet boat in a blow.

Interior wise I like the open feeling that makes the 25 feel much bigger than it is. You'll appriciate the fwd mounted engine access when it comes to maintenance. The less conventional interior works well by design. The Y24 looks to be a more traditional interior as well as a shallow draft keel - preferred for gunkholing.
My brother also owns a macgregor 19 as well as a S2 center cockpit. If you like the Macgregors the the Y24 may be the the boat for you - I know you'll appreciate the build qualities of a Yamaha no matter which one you chose.

Different boats for different folks

Thanks. I appreciate your comment. I am actually leaning towards the 24MS at the moment because it appears to be in better condition.
