Y-valve plumbing problems

I need to make a very sharp turn out of my new Jabsco Y-valve. Jabsco says I cannot glue a 90degree PVC elbow to their plastic, it will break.

What about using a preformed radiator hose? They come with sharp elbows. I can cut it short so it's not a big part of the plumbing. One end goes onto the Y-valve hose barb, the other gets a hose barb connector to mate to my new Trident 101 hose.
It won't have the odor protection of the Trident so could I coat it with something? Paint? Epoxy? Peanut Butter? Something to seal in the odors. The whole thing wouldn't be more than 8" long

Peggy, have you seen anything like this done?

Thanks much

Is there room to put the elbow in using short connector pieces of hose ?? Use the elbow with barbs ends and very short hose connectors. As Peggy will tell you a 90 is not a good idea but I will assume youy already know that and it is a last resort type situation.....Got to think radiator hose is a bad idea, it will pick up the odor..

Already tried that. Somebody sells hose barbs that fit PVC elbows. Use a short piece of hose to connect the Y-valve hose barb to the PVC hose barb; that goes into the PVC elbow and the other PVC hose barb goes into the Trident hose.
It adds about 4" in length that I don't have room for. If I put the Y-valve hose barb directly into a Street Elbow, I save at least 2" or more and it fits, barely.

And you probably considered using two separate valves instead of a wye?

Why Not?

Sure, you convinced me. I'd do exactly as you suggested. It is a small section that you can replace if needed. I also think you can wrap that hose with something that Peggy knows which will keep the odor in. I cant remember what it is. She will.

Return the y-valve and replace it with a Whale

High quality y-valves have a "barrel" inside that rotates when the handle is turned...the Jabsco has just a small "gate" that swings to block one side or the other...even a grape seed can jam it. And the fact that Jabsco advises against gluing a fitting to it tells you how flimsy it is. Whale is top quality and costs little if any more.

To sollve your problem, first thing I'd do is figute out what change you can make in the direction of the plumbing TO the y-valve--where you could put a radius fitting ahead of it--that would allow you to aim it where it needs to go. Or where else you could put the y-valve that wouldn't require a sharp bend.

However I have to ask why you're installing a y-valve at all...'cuz you're in "no discharge" waters that are at least 800 miles from the nearest waters in which it would be legal to flush directly overboard or dump a tank. So unless your boat is a looooong way from MI, why ARE you installing one?

In talking with other plastics knowledgable folk; the reason for not glueing is chemical makeup, not flimsyness. The type of plastic they use will break down if subject to glueing. It can only be so thick and work as a 1.5" hose barb.

I have spent a LOT of time assessing the situation. The Y-valve was in a worse position than where I'm trying to move it. Before it blocked access to a thru-hull. That's unacceptable. So this spot is better, shorter more direct runs but a tighter spot.

As for where I am located; There is no law, yet, that says I have to stay where I am.

Thanks for answering the question I asked.
