Works fine anyplace I've ever been. You'll need the marine antenna, because the car antenna is meant to use the metal of the car as part of the antenna. You can find them at any marine store.
I use the XM radio in my boat all the time. I use a standard car antenna. I open a forward hatch and put the antenna on the deck just outside the forward hatch and it works just fine.
