I have a Freedom 20 inverter charger on my 1991 H42 ( I think it was replaced in 2007 after a lightening strike). I find it a nuisance to have to open the engine room door in the master cabin to see the warning lights etc. I have been considering fitting the xantrax remote control panel, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that there maybe better alternatives.
I would be interested to hear from people who have this remote control panel and hear what they think of it- it seems it might be quite a job to initially set it up??
Also, I believe there are other alternatives and would be interested to hear about these as well please and why these are better options.

eianm,

I believe that there are only two options:

1. Link 1000 or 2000, no longer made, are battery monitors and also control the Freedom units via a telephone cable; might be available on eBay, we have a Link 2000 for our Freedom 15, circa 1998 equipment

2. The remote panel you descibe. That's the way I'd go (if you can find one).

You can get the Xantrex manual for all their discontinued products online.

This was written in 2011. Please let me know if it doesn't work.

Remote panel

I have the panel for my freedom 20 on my 07 H-36 and it is mounted at my nav station and has a very easy to just plug in telephone cable from the inverter/charger to the remote and it works the inverter/charger very well.
I can't Imagine using the charger part or inverter without the remote plus it gives battery info all the time.
I would find one or get in touch with Xantrex for one for sure.

I have the panel on my H38 at the nav station and it works fine. Does everything required; shows overall battery state (low, medium, high); indicates AC in, fault, and overtemp; lets you set up the charger for different house battery types -- lead acid, gel, agm, and lets you set the charger for amp hour capacity of house bank, lets you force equalization, lets you turn charger on/off; lets you turn on inverter, and lets you set the max input current to use for charging (useful when running a genset to charge and you need gen power to heat water or run air at the same time.)

The Freedom remote works well and isn't difficult to set up. Definitely essential gear to go with the inverter.

The only remote currently available is the Xantrex 84-2056-01. It is simple plug and play but is pretty basic.. The Link 1000 & 2000 series remotes are long gone...
