I have removed all the loose wrap from the exaust manifold since it was loose and comming apart. I have a 3" x 24" heavy weave fiberglass ribbon. I assume it is fiberglass. After wrapping the exaust flange, coupling and nipple, I only got to the base of the silver mixing elbow. I have secured it temprarely with zip ties while I find my stainless wire to wrap it with. My question is: do I also need to wrap the mixing elbow or am I o.k. as I have it.
Thanks
Jose

This is one of those questions that will start a hot debate:) There's already one back in the archives somewhere. FWIW the piping to my elbow is not wrapped. Of course, I am careless, negligent, and heedless of peril to my life or that of my guests and crew.

The arrangement of your engine room and the characteristics of your particular engine should factor into the decision about the pipe. I don't think you need to wrap the elbow (same one I have) as there is enough water flow to keep it cool.

No need to wrap the ell more than you've already done. The rest of it is cool enough to put your hands on when running .. The part you did wrap is not water cooled and may be wrapped but even that is not absolutely necessary.
