Would you consider buying one for a 22 foot boat. Seems like a good model if I bought the marine charts since I can use both in the car and on the boat for realtively cheap. Any opinions or first hand expierence? Don

From what I looked at...

it looks better for the car than the boat. I didn't see anything on waypoints, tracking, etc.

bought it for the car, will be splashing the boat next week. My third Lowrance, haven't had any problems with them. I don't think the xog is as water resistant as the dedicated marine versions. As yet, I don't have the marine charts for it. You can down load the manual from the Lowrance site.

What kind of sailing do you do?

Ocean, coastal, lake? While I understand GPS can give speed over the ground and other neat stuff, you might consider whither you need the maps or just the data displays. If you are going into new areas all the time then the maps would make sense. If you are sailing in familiar areas then maps become much less important. My $0.02
