The tiller head and through hole on the rudder is worn. What is the best way to repair this? I was thinking of drilling it larger and putting in a bushing. What would be the best material?
Hello Steve:Sure, you can drill the rudder for an oversize hole. The bearing supply retailers can supply a composition material bushing. Nylon, Delrin, Glass filled teflon etc.The easiest to find would be a bronze bushing. It could be glued into the rudder or loose. It will be a thin wall bushing so a bronze, aluminum or stainless steel would be best.My 1980 C22 has a loose aluminum bushing in the rudder & I assume that is standard.Regards, Bob B.
