Has anyone purchased the wooden lattice floor covering that I saw in one of the websites just posted recently?

http://vegaboatsupplies.oppermans.net/

I am wondering what your opinions are of the product.

As you zoom in on the picture, I am wondering if it contours to the exact shape of our Vega floors (where the access cover is slightly raised).

Hi Everyone!

I have a 1973 vovlp-penta MD6A and was wondering if they need a sacrificial zinc anode? Where might that be located should it need one, and are they hard to come by? I thought I read somewhere that they needed one, though I have not seen them in my manuals?!?!?!

Many Thanks!

Hi Roy, don't know anything about the lattice. One thing the designer of our
boats said was "keep it light". They do suffer when carrying a load. Extra
expense and harder to get to under the sole. A good thing to carry is an
electric screwdriver with a bit for the screws holding the sole down. It
could be a lifesaver if your shaft ever pulls out!
Now on to the ever popular Tinker. There is a Tinker listed on Ebay with
sailing rig and liferaft option. I't located in Portsmouth, Virginia. USA.
(Sorry Brits!) Go to sporting goods and look under inflatable rafts. It's
not cheap! Walt

Hi Steve;
but does a wise Vegan bolt an anode onto prop shaft?

I'm intrigued by your statement "uses engine as anode@.

Is this a Good Thing?

My Vega is on a fresh-water (obviously) lake so presumably not that big a
deal?

But if I take boat to sea (locking down 100 ft through the Shannon hydro
power system) do I/we need an anode?

And if so is the standard setup ok - bolting onto prop shaft?

Thanks as always

John

Hi John

Most Vegas in Scandanavia do not usually have anodes but then the Baltic
is not at all salty. I have seen a few with specially made anodes on the
end of the prop boss but this is to save the prop and shaft not the
engine. The question the guy was asking was about the necessity of an
anode for the engine. Due to the thickness of the engine walls etc is
twas deemed not necessary to have an anode and as they are still running
after 35 years it seems they were correct.

Quite a few Vegas in the UK have bolted Anodes onto the outside of the
hull and bonded this to various parts of the boat metallic parts e.g.
Skin Fittings, shaft, engine etc

I was being a little sarcastic when I said they "used the engine as an
anode" I'm sorry!!! Just trying to put a litlle humour into the remark.

Most vegas I have seen do not have anodes and are still working after at
least 30 years... Thinks this proves what is what.

If anyone wants I have a very comprehensive article on Anodes and their
use on yachts.

Cheers

Hi!

I am not sure it is the same anod as you are looking for, but there is one at the end of the propeller that I change every second year or so. It is specially designed for the combi propeller and fits exacly at the end of the propeller (after the blades) where it is attached with a bolt. It can be bought from Fors Marin, Sweden, and probably from other places to. Fors Marin are specialists on the old Albin engine but have also parts for the Volvos and some other special Vega stuff, e.g. the drainage plugg in the keel.

Yours,

Björn

Steve, I am encouraged by your comment about the Volvo engines
"still running after 30 years". I had called Volvo Marine and asked
for information regarding the sacrificial anode in the engine block,
since for the life of me I couldn't find it, and was told there was
none. That kind of left me scratching my head. I'm on the salty
Pacific, and my MD7A is an older raw water cooled re-build. She seems
to be doing fine without the anode though. ( I am however saving for
one of your Betas ;-) Take care, Craig Tern 1519
