Wooden boat show
The Admiral and I just returned today from Madisonville after spending Friday and Saturday night on the boat and going to the show. I agree, the steam launch was truly a sight to see. Lots of other eye candy out there (I meant the nautical kind). I can't imagine how people can maintain those boats to such a high level.
We had an interesting time coming back through the Causeway drawbridge. We had arranged for an opening, but when we got up to the draw, the bridge tender called and asked us to try & pass under the closed bridge. I was, well, reluctant, since the charted clearance is 42 feet and the published air draft for a Pearson 32 is 45 feet. But the tender came out of his house, climbed partway down a stairway to get to eye level with the underside of the bridge, and waved us through. I thought for sure our masthead antenna was going to scrape on the bridge, but we made it with a couple of feet to spare. What do you know. (I'll take that beer now.)
Also, as part of the preparation for the trip I replaced the pump on our old Jabsco head with a Raritan pump using the kit sold on this site. What an improvement, and two thumbs up from the Admiral. Needless to say, anything that makes her more comfortable on the boat is a Good Thing. Highly recommended.
