Has anyone out there had any experience in replacing their factory original wood spreaders with the new Aluminum retrofit ones? Even though my 1980 Catalina 30’s look in good shape, I would feel safer if I made the switch.

About 6,000 {Again: Class Associations}

divided by about 2, which is when they switched. go to www.catalina30.org and/or www.catalinadirect.com They sell replacement alum spreaders. Do it, for your safety. Stu In addition to this great website, EACH C size has an ASSOCIATION. Usually www.c[size] or Catalina[size] DOT org or dot com. Easy to find and a great resource in addition to this. I sometimes wish, Phil, that you'd put the links on here somewhere so we don't have to keep repeating ourselves for the new folks. Most of us peruse both, so we wouldn't be missing or losing anyone here.

I totally agree .....

...with your suggestion Stu. I'd go one step further and put that information in the sign up page so the new folks won't possibly miss it. ps we could also put that theoretical hull speed thing in there too.

Guys, Both of you have contributed a lot to this forum and we all owe you a lot of thanks. I mean no disrespect, but want to point out that I like being able to chat with other C-30 owners, even if it's about things that have been covered before. If every subject were covered (and most of them have) then there'd be no need for this great forum, all we'd need is a reference library. If you want to check the archives yourself, then do so. If you're tired of typing the same answers, then don't respond. Nobody's forcing you to. Nobody wants to ask a question & get the one line answer "check the archives". They want to communicate with another owner. So, for the record, if anybody wants to know if the hairline crack at the keel/hull joint is strutural, how to replace the keel bolts, how to fix the mast compression post or ANYTHING else, just ask & I'll be happy to respond!! :) Thanks, Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632

Answer to the question...

thubbard, I did this in 2001. It was an easy fix, a good value & they look & perform great. I feel much safer knowing aluminum is up there and it's probably lighter. Weight aloft isn't good. The holes on the new spreaders aligned perfectly with the holes for the wooden ones. Check out the related link below. Good Luck, Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632
