Was wondering what thoughts are on using 3M 5200 to bed wooden ribs on my Rhodes. The white oak has lasted 40 years in terrible conditions so I doubt I'll ever replace them. It seems to me that it would be easier and maybe better than bedding them with thickend fiberglass. Thinking then I would tab it in with glass fabric and resin. Any thoughts??????????? Thanks

Stick With Dolfinite

I would stick with Dolfinite. It has a mold/fungus retardant. I would guess it is what was used on the boat construction originally. Glassing will trap moisture and encourage rot unless the wood is fully encapsulated with epoxy on both sides, and I doubt you want to do that. Good luck. Rick D.

I wasn't giving you enough info. Guess you couldn't read my mind Rick....Sorry. I was talking wooden ribs in a fiberglass hull. 1960 vintage Rhodes. And you where thinking wood on wood.

In That Case...

...sure. I think you will find 5200 works best with a hardwood, however. RD
