I have stumbled on a wonderful web site maintained by the owner of Glissando, a 1963 Pearson Triton. This gentleman, who never mentions his own name anywhere on the site, has written about and photgraphed every single step of a stem-to-stern refit of this classic fiberglass sloop. This person is not a boat professional--in fact there's no indication of what he does for a living--but he tackles every conceivable boat maintenance problem: he recored his deck, painted the hull and deck with polyurethane, replaced all of the deck hardware, put in a head, installed a high-output alternator, even sewed his own cockpit cushions. While this is all good reading, the best part is that somewhere you'll find your own pet project, described in detail, in the midst of Glissando's refit. This man will tell you how he decided what to do, where he screwed up, and what really worked. And the sources! This very frugal guy mentions where he buys everything, along with a link if the suppier has a web site. In fact, he's saving me about $200 on the 1/0 cables that I need for my windlass next spring. Any DIYer or wanna-be should stop by and visit Glissando. Paul sv Escape Artist h336
