My last trip to Chicago, I didn't have enough time in WM store.
I'll be going to Houston in next 2 weeks on business so would like to visit a WM store on spare day. Can anyone tell me which of the two WM stores is larger/better/has more stuff ?
The one at 132 Fm 1960 Rd Ste E, Houston, TX 77073-1814 or 9000 Hempstead Hwy Suite #100, Houston, TX 77008 ?
Or is there any other better chandlery I should be visiting instead? Do tell.:)
Much appreciated.

Ken

The one at Hempstead Highway used to be a big Boat US store and it probably has a great selection of stuff.. I bought my dink there back in 1991 when it was Boat US.. But do take the time to drive down to Kemah and Seabrooke to poke around .. Boaters Resale Shop of Texas is worth a look/see.. Several other places there.. and have lunch or supper at the Classic Cafe while you are there.

I would go to Kemah/Seabrook also. There's one on Nasa 1 which is the north side of Clear Lake, and one on the south(larger store) side across the bridge on FM 2094 also. If you haven't seen this area, it is worth the trip. Kemah Boardwalk is kind of touristy, but a good place to have a drink and watch the boats going in and out of Galveston Bay.

Is there any sales tax (VAT) on purchases made in Houston? Would I be able to reclaim the tax at airport?

Sales Tax

At one time if a store in Texas was shipping your purchase out of the state they would not charge you the sales tax. I did all my Christmas shopping that way. Would doubt West Marine does much of that but it may be worth asking about it, particularly if you are spending an appreciable amount of money.

That is probably still true if you have it shipped and do not take it with you from the store.

OK, next couple of days, if you see a car driving on wrong side of road heading to WM stores at 132 Fm 1960 Rd Ste E, 9000 Hempstead Hwy and to Seabrooke and Kemah, that would probably be me. Please give me wide berth. I'll try not to tack on the highway. :) :) :)

Claude & Kfish,
I took your advise and drove to Kemah. The WM is there is big. Didn't go to the 1 at Seabrook as its smaller. Took a walk and had a couple of pint at Broadwalk watching sailboats and super power-boats driving in & out of the marina. Surprise surprise there seems to be quite afew Hunters out there. Saw Sissy (or is it Sassy), Tranquility ...h410, 310, 430, 280/290 etc...

Pat, you're right couldn't reclaim tax. Bought some stuff at WM at FM 1960 and then somemore at WM store at Kemah. Tax at FM 1960 is higher 8.25% whereas Kemah tax is 8%. Anyway it was good shoppings.

Thank you all. BTW the traffic accident at/near FM1960 (an over turned yellow cab) wasn't caused by me. Swear I drove on RIGHT side of road.
