O Day 30 Quincy,Ma.
I have an O'Day 30 with a Yanmar 2QM15 eng. I recently repaired a wire that was removed by the previous owner that went from the bat. term on the starter to the bat. term on the alt. when I switched the battery on after the repair I heard the Ign. switch alarm come on weakly along with power to the fuel indicator with the Ign. switch in the OFF position. I have checked all mfg. original wiring and haven't found any faults or shorts. When I measure voltage at the "L" terminal on the alt I get 1.7 V, and 12v at the bat. terminal on the alt. Is normal to have voltage at the "L" terminal with the ign. switch off ? cuz as I read my wiring diagram from the Yanmar manual I dont think there should be any power on this wire with the Ign. switch off, I think this would indicate a faulty alternator but when I had it tested they told me it was fine. Anyone have any ideas or similar experience?

Remove the wire and see what does not work!....might have been an alarm wire that kept going off, My 32 had a bunch of wires that was disconnected and they were for alarms
Also most alarm circuits operate on negative not positive so you might have hooked it to the wrong terminal
