Wiring Mast to Interior

Hi. We just purchased an Oday 222 and are novices in most categories. We are both pretty handy but have never worked on a boat so everything is still a little perplexing. We didn’t meet the owner so there is nobody to explain some of the things we are looking at. I imagine we will be asking a lot of questions and hope we don’t wear out our welcome.

I am currently working on the wiring, checking it all out, making sure everything is working etc. It’s quite a puzzle since there are no labels on any of the wires. Currently I am looking at the wiring coming from the mast and how they get into the interior of the cabin. I will attach photos but here is what I am seeing:
1. From the exterior of the mast there are five wires. Three are white wires bundling two wires each. (I’m assuming one is for the running light, one is for the flood to light the deck, the third I have no idea). One is a coax from an antenna at the top of the mast. One is a black wire from the wind sensor to a ray marine instrument. All of these wires are cut clean and have no way of attachment.
2. On the roof of the cabin next to the mast holder is a rubber thing like a nipple which I cannot identify.
3. There is also a plug receptacle bolted to the roof of the cabin. We do not have a corresponding plug for this.
4. Coming into the cabin from the roof near the mast are three wires. Two are the white mentioned in #1 above. Two are single wires cut very close to the.

I have no idea how to proceed. I have not pulled down the headliner yet. Can anyone give me some direction. Thanks in advance, Don.

I was also wondering if there are any Oday owners around Hilton Head Island or the Savannah area. We would love to meet and look at your boat. A 222 would be great but anything close would be great.

Hi from the Midwest!
I just finished re-wiring my mast and replacing the lights on my 25'. I had something similar to this when I started.
Thankfully my connectors we're close together, so I pulled them out and covered the holes with one of those solar cable entry covers, I was able to run the new wires through the old holes and out through the compression nut. Nice and water tight, without looking ugly. For the connectors, I used a regular 4 way flat trailer connector from the local hardware store. 4 connectors gives me spreader lights, mast head, and anchor light, with a common ground. If you want to keep your wind sensor, you may need to use a 5 way or 7 way connector. Both are pretty common.

I have not run the coax yet. I'm still saving up for a good radio. (for now, my handheld works just fine )
but the coax is still in the mast, so I can pull new through if needed, and I have the second nut/collet thing on the cable passthrough cover.
This is part of a complete electrical overhaul, I'm slowly ripping out all the old and replacing as I go.. Lots of work, but nice to finally have some working mast lights!

Any autoparts store or trailer supply. would have them. Try to get water proof ones.

yep. you can literally buy them from Walmart. but I'd suggest going to AutoZone or a hardware store for better quality.

Pics can be helpful and sometimes leave perspective lacking. However, from what I've seen it would appear that the PO used a flat quick connect trailer plug. Certainly nothing wrong with that. Looks like a ground, anchor, steaming and spreader light configuration....

For future reference, if people find this thread through a search, these are the two connectors I will be installing for the antenna and mast head light. They might work well for others too.
