I'm a recent Hunter owner. My spreader lights do not work and I'm told the bulbs check OKAY. The wiring to them is at fault. Is there anyway to check the wiring to and within the mast w/o unstepping it? Many other boats I've seen have the usual "pig tail" connection on the deck outside the mast. Not so on my Hunter 31 1986. Baffled in Milford!

Wiring pigtail inside

The pigtail for steaming and anchor lights is at base of mast. Probably same thing for your spreader lights. It is generally what causes the problem as it may get loose or oxydized. If you can remove the sheaves for the halyards on one side of mast, you might be lucky and have enough play in the wire to pull it out and check it. Before you do that, you may climb up the mast and clean the connectors inside of the spreader lights and then check for voltage there, Finally, light bulbs are cheap, and if you don't know for sure that yours are good, put new ones in before you do anything. Good Luck
