Can someone point me in the right direction? I want to add a starting battery to my 2000 340. Any diagrams for this type of winter project out there?

Should be wired from the factory!

Lauren: You system should have been wired that way from the factory. Battery bank 1 or 2 is the starter and the other is your house bank.

How about "in here"?

There are several examples here on HOW. Go to the "Photo Forum" and search on "wiring diagram". See Yaga and others. The West Marine catalog also has an example. Best library source is Nigel Calder's book. But how is your H340 currently wired? Isn't there a starter battery on switch position #1 and a house(or two) on position #2?

H340 currently wired

I have 2 batteries. Both will start the engine and run the house bank. Setting to switch position 1 or 2 justs eliminates the other battery.

Is there anything wrong with that?

Lauren: Is there anything wrong with that setup? If you have a truly isolated starting battery and that dies, how would you start the engine. You may consider the setup that they have with multiple A-B switches so you could re-direct your power if there was a failure in you starting battery circuit. This would have you setup with only an ON-OFF switch on your primary panel. Look at the West Marine Catalog. They have the ultimate setup in there.

Third Bank?

I have wired two house banks and single starter battery on my 2001 H320. Is this what you are looking to do on your H340? I wanted the extra current to run the refridgerator for a couple days away from the dock, but still wanted to isolate each bank. If so, I can supply you with the details on what I did and used, and what I learned along the way. Let me know...sestyles@yahoo.com

Battery Circuit

This is a good discussion to jump in on. Our 290 was delivered with the standard A-B switch and we generally start on the A battery, but can redirect from the house bank. We changed our B by running it through another A-B switch to isolate each of the two house side batteries. So far so good. The thing that nags at me is that the house banks are a longer run away from the panel than the starter battery. If I had my preference, each battery, including the starter one, would be protected with a fuse. However, I was told that the starter could impose too high a load to allow me to fuse the battery primary leads. Since the starter can run off of any of the three batteries depending upon the position of the switches...is fusing the battery cables actually impossible? Dan Jonas (S/V Feije)
