Wire-to-rope

Hi anyone who has an answer,

The Wire-to-rope halyards on my Vega are getting old and weary.
Is it wise to change to all-rope halyards?

Petur,
I've answerd this questioin for many people.
If you're going to use some high-tech line like spectra cored double
braid,
make sure you change the sheaves in your mast and foot blocks.
Possibly the sheaves are scored by the old wire and will ruin your new
halyards, and also the shape of the sheave may be originally suited for
wire rope.
A good chandlery should be able to help with sheave selection if you
are not sure.
Good luck,
Pete

Hi Peter

I have changed many Vegas to all rope and it is very easy. We use Braid on Braid polyester 10mm. The sheaves are OK for this rope and I have never had a problem. There is a little stretch so advisable just to tighten your halyard after 5 minutes.

Kind Regards
