This is my first year in owning my Hunter 40. It is in North Carolina and I will be leaving it in the water year-round. Does anyone have special thoughts or a thorough check list for winterizing?

Water temp?

Hi Patt, Your boat is where I want mine to be. And I believe the water temperature there would preclude any drastic action. Maybe NO action. Most liquids are close to the hull so there should be no freezing danger. Will you be going to the boat ofter? I would dump pink anti-freeze in the head and pump it through into the holding tank before I left her. Maybe a quart in the sink drains. Where exactly is the boat? Ed (eschenck@ezo.net)

Winterizing in NC

I winterize my bot even though it is in North Carolina waters. I leave it in the water year round. 2 years ago the haror froze over with a thin skim of ice and air temps have gotten down to 10 F degrees above zero. I empty my fresh water tank and pump the pink stuff through all the water lines. I put a little in each drain and then close the thru hull. I also pump some antifreeze through the raw water intake through the manifold and exhaust. I empty the strainer. I put some pink stuff in the holding tank also and pump it through the seawater intake to the head. I have winterized my boat every winter of the 13 years I have been here in NC. BTW I keep my boat in Washington, NC near Bath, NC. I hope to install air conditioning soon and will have one more item to winterize.
