I only do one thing

on my 2 stroke, with the fuel shutoff or remote tank disconnected, I run the engine until it stops, so fuel is not left to gunk up the carb.

one more thing

Put some gasoline fuel conditioner in the tank and run it to keep the fuel from gumming up the carb. The water should drain right out of the cooling system once the motor is pulled out of the water. Some folks drain the oil out of the lower end but don't forget to replace in spring.

Also,

the prudent thing to do is to spray fogging oil into the carb. Also remove the spark plug(s) and spray fogging oil into cylinder(s). Crank a couple of times to disperse the oil then replace the plug(s). Store in a heated, dry space. You are all set. Start normally in the spring.

Paul Plus

I do what Paul does plus change the lower unit oil. In the early spring I take to my mechanic and have him check it over. He has found things that need to be fixed before they break. It is worth it to be sure that it runs well all summer. Be sure you have a trustworthy mechanic that will not 'find' things that are marginal to fix. ct

one more...if salt water

I spray the entire engine with wd 40 and rest it on some cardboard in the basement. The wd40 goes a long way in preserving the engine exposed to salt water.

What About Read the Manual?

Some may think that's un-American, or, as my wife says, un-male. However, all the information you need is there. If you don't have a manual it may be available on-line or as a "part". The people that make these things should have a good handle on what should be done as they know their products intimately. At least my old '93 Johnson 8-horse Owners Manual is pretty good. It's amazing how some products have little idiosyncrasies and missing something could be costly. Anyway, that's my 2-cents worth and that's what I'd do. (p.s. for this board there's no charge!)
