Hello, Can anyone tell me the best way to winterize the hotwater heater on a B310? I bought the (93) 310 in June and there were no manuals included. Also, I've changed the engine oil and am not sure what to do about the transmission oil. I've drained the old oil but don't know what to replace it with. I have a ton more questions but I'll refrain. Thanks, Tim

Hot Water

The Hot Water heater should have a drain for the fresh water. If not pull off the supply line and drain it that way. The transmission takes the same oil as the engine. I use Rotella-T 15w40.

water heater

I bought a 281 this summer and never could get the fresh water to work. I new there was a leak somewhere because water showed up in mysterious places when I turned on the fresh water pump. Last week, I pulled out the water heater and took it apart. The last owner apparently had not drained the tank because it was split open like a ripe mellon. This could not be detected with the heater in place and the cover on it. If the water heater is similar to mine, there is a plastic drain "faucet" on the lower left side of the unit (as you look at the hoses). I have gone a step further for this winter, I drained the water tank, loosened the fittings on either side of the water pump and used a small compressor to blow out the lines.

hot water heater

I found it easy to open the drain on the heater and attach a small hose to it and blow(if you don't have a compressor). After each puff hold the hose in a bucket or small pan. This takes about 10 minutes or so. When finished, close the drain and put some red alcohol in the fresh water tank and turn on the pump and open a hot water valve (running about half a gallon or so). This usually does it for my system (in Michigan) but it does take a while to get all the alcohol out in the spring . Also, I have a 92 310 and may have the manual you are looking for. email me at kosmalsk@izzy.net and in the meantime I will look. I have practically every manual that came with the boat.
