Winterizing Max-Prop

On the off chance that this might be of interest to Max-Prop owners -
In the past I've always cleaned and greased our prop in the spring, prior to launching. For some reason, a couple of years ago I greased it after haul-out. I was amazed how much water the grease displaced, and can't help but think that that much water freezing and expanding might not be the best thing for the internal mechanism.

Good point. When I grease my Auto Stream prop I also get water expelled from the seals. I have never had any damage, but I think I will take your idea and start greasing my prop in the fall. Thanks for the tip.

The same thing dawned on me a couple of years ago. Now it is greased in the fall and it is one less task for the spring.

Considering the cost of a Maxprop, and how easily it can be removed, I might be tempted to take off and store it at home.

I grease ours in the Fall, and always see some water pushed out. I then feel good knowing it is set for the winter. Though I suspect that if any water did freeze solid, worst case it would only push some grease out.

the maxprop spec sheet that came with my prop instructed that prop,be greased at haul out to push water out so that it won’t freeze over the winter.
