A little late now, but curious as to the procedures others use to winterize their a/c units?

One method

Stuart, I have 2 A/C units and I have winterized them for 3 years. I have developed a method that seems to work easily and effectively for me. My method works equally well for boats that are in or out of the water for the winter. Basically, you need to keep water from freezing in the lines, pump, and A/C heat exchanger. For my fresh water system, I simply blow the lines and pump clear with air and leave them dry. For my engine, generator, and the A/C units I feel it is better to fill the systems with the enviromentally friendly antifreeze. I do this for two reasons- first to be absolutely sure of eliminating all pockets of water that might freeze and second to provide internal corrosion protection to the metal parts and eliminate internal rusting. For all the engines and A/C system, I simply flush the systems with fresh water to disolve any salt and then allow the systems to suck in an antifreeze mixture until it is discharged. Check out my photo posting by searching in the Hunter photo forum for "Improved Winterizing Engine". Rich

A/C winterizing

I have a 12K Mermaid on my Hunter 30T in Texas. In Texas we leave the boat in the water year around. For winterizing I turnoff the freshwater seacock disconnect the inlet hose to the pump and stick it in the gallon container of the "protable water" antifreeze "pink stuff". Be sure to buy this stuff any where but the marina ship store (twice as much as W. Marine, or Walmart). Turn the A/C on and let it run through the system. Reconnect the hose to the seacock and your ready for next season. Jim
