I have a 1992H-27 with the 1GM engine. I can't find anything on winterizing this engine. It cools off lake water and I can't figure out how to get antifreeze in it. Any help will be appreciated. (I tried the Yanmar site but could not locate anything there either.)

How cold does it get?

John: How cold does it get there? Basically you may be able to just turn off the raw water intake at the thru hull fitting. Then get yourself a few gallons of RV antifreeze. Pour it into a bucket Attach a hose to the raw water strainer that will pickup from the bucket. When the antifreeze comes out of the exhaust you should have enough protection. There are other areas that you need to consider too. Your fresh water tank and the holding tank. These areas will probably freeze before you engine does. So you need to do some preventative maintenace in those areas too.

Steve's Right!

Up until September, I had an '82 h27 (great boat!!), but, have since moved up to a 29.5. Every winter, I simply disconected the raw water intake hose at the engine, hooked up a piece of old garden hose (about 3 foot length), clamped it off, and stuck it in a 5 gallon pail with about 3 gallons of "blue Pop" or ethylene glycol, ran the engine until the pail is just about empty, and, that's it! Takes about 45 minutes to do it all. I then just hooked everything back the way it was, and, dream of summer!

They made about 120 of those boats with the inboard diesel. Top off the tank with diesel and of course some additive that you can purchase from a auto parts. YOu do not want condensation in the tank. Your engine does not have an interenal water system. You will need to add non toxic RV antifreeze(pink) at the strainer. It depends which strainer you have. Drain your waste and fresh water lines. Add RV non toxic antifreeze. Let the fresh water system run until the pink is seen in the galley and head. Also, I question the need for the engine being winterized with the addition of the RV non toxic antifreeze on Lake Lanier crazy Dave Condon

Only 120, Crazy Dave?

I would have guessed 1,200 Cherubini h27's were made with inboard diesels. There are about 20 for sail on the web with this configuration right now. Did you drop a 0? By the way, my winterizing routine is: the same pumping of anti-freeze into the engine, adding anti-biotic and anti-moisure additives to the topped up fuel tank, pumping the fresh water system dry and running anti-freeze into it, and emptying the portapotty, and pouring antifreeze into it. I was referring to that specific 27 built between the years 1988 through 1992-1993. The other 27 you mentioned is differnt in style and hull which you have one. Crazy Dav e Condon

thanks

Thanks for all the help. Crazy Dave, I am glad to see you monitor this forum. I always read your comments in the smaller boat forum but not as often, here. I am following the advice given and feel comfortable with this procedure going forward. John
