Hi everyone. I have a 1986 Hunter 31 that is currently on the hard for the winter and the diesel is not in running condition. I did my best to winterize today by disconnecting the fresh water intake and running a hose to the cockpit with a funnel. I then poured about 1/2-gallon of marine anti-freeze in the funnel until pure anti-freeze was running out of the petcock that I had opened up on the rear of the heat exchanger. Is there anyway to also get coolest into the exhaust loop without risking coolest entering the cylinders due to the height of where the coolant is being introduced. I also drained the how water heater and introduced coolest to the fresh water piping. Thank you in advance. P.S. I'm in Roanoke, Virginia

I've found that air is the best and easiest solution to not haivng water freeze in your plumbing. Just take off the raw water pump output and drain the heat exchanger, use a turky baster to drain the raw water screen, and pull any hoses that might have raw water in them. First time taking off the raw water hosesuse a screw driver to break the rubber to metal seal. After that they come off pretty easy as it takes several years to get that kind of stickage in a rubber hose. Take a can of compressed air and after disconnecting the plumbing hoses at the pump blow out the lines to the fresh water tanks (assuming you have them drained already). disconnect the hot water heater and blow out the pump to heater and pump to faucte (open them of course) lines. leave all the lines disconnected till spring.
You don't have to get every drop of water out of the lines BTW, if you get most of it out the water will have some place to expand into and not cause a problem.
I've used this method for over 7 years now and never had a problem.
