Gordon, Any suggestions on what is the best winter storage for a Yanmar 2GM20F on an H310 ? Our winters here in British Columbia are mild but it will rain from November to March and the boat won't move three feet. We do the usual ...... new oil and coolant before winter sets in and up until last winter, twice a month would use the starter to roll the engine over for about 10 seconds with the stop lever pulled out. We figured this would distribute oil throughout the bearings. Left the cooling water thru-hull closed to avoid flooding the muffler. Recently, I have begun to worry that the lack of fuel to the cylinders during this roll over may leave the top rings without lubrication. What would you recommend for the best care during a winter storage ? Regards, s/v Island Hunter

Lay-up

You have done about all that needs to be done. You may want to tape a piece of plastic over the air intake to keep out humidity and critters. Touching up any areas of potential rust wouldn't hurt. The oil in the engine does not drain down much more in three months than it does in a week. The initial cranking of an engine is some of the most severe treatment the lubricated surfaces experience. When you go to start the engine, do as you have done. Pull the stop cable and crank the engine until the oil pressure registers. Then start it up and enjoy the boat. Remember to remove the air inlet plastic.
