Winter Storage

I have an 88 H23 on a lake in the poconos, this year I have the option of storing the boat for the winter with the mast up. I will have the boat shrink wraped but this would leave the rigging to the elements. Is it better just to bring the mast down so it can be covered with the rest of the boat?

I don't see where it'd make much difference, Justin. You should consider that with the mast down, it'll be easier to inspect/repair/replace things topside and things will stay cleaner. However, all of your standing rigging is either stainless or aluminum. They'll take anything in stride, especially considering that you're far from the salt air of the sea shore. I had considered leaving our mast up last winter, but now I'm glad we took it down. I found some corrosion inside the masthead light, the VHF antenna wire had some broken insulation, and I mounted a new Windex. Of course, I could've used a bosun's chair, but I think I spent less time overall even considering the time spent lowering & raising the mast! Smooth Sailing! Jim Maroldo s/v: Lil Wass Ett
