I store my 37.5 Endeavour sailboat in the Michigan winters with the mast up... Should I be concerned with doing this?

Yes but ...........

If it's a keel stepped mast some water will likely make its way to the bilge so add some -100 degree antifeeze or some Zerex and you'll be fine. Won't hurt to occasionally check it to avoid ice damage

Mast up

In our area, Montreal in Canada, where we have a lot of stroms and snow in the winter time, 99% of the boats are stored with the mast up. Those that lower the mast are, most of the time doing it to work on the mast or hardware. The vast majority leave the boats without any type of cover. There are around 400 boats at our marina. When the snow melt, it takes all the dust with it and the boats are fairly clean for the spring launch. Boats here are on the ground from mid October to mid May. I do not think that leaving the mast up is a problem at all.

Yes, what Claude said... we do the same here in central NJ and everywhere else we've seen!

Our marina is located

Svey, our summer marina is Gilbert Brooks on the NY side of lake Champlain, 10 miles north of Platsburgh. Our winter storage is at Light house point marina in Rouses point NY, around 100 + boats there in the winter, all with mast up. The marina I was describing with 400 + boats is Marina Gosselin at St-Paul de l'ile aux noix on the Quebec side of the Richelieu river. A marina where a lot of Canadian baoters navigating on lake Champlain on the summer time store their boat for the winter.

never had a problem

We stored our keel stepped boat with mast up for several winters in New England. We never had a problem with water seeping into the bilge (or any other negative effects) but it could happen so antifreeze (pink stuff) is a good idea in the bilge. We shrinkwrapped for a couple of years and built a frame and winter cover for a couple and we always remained bone dry. That said, you will always find others who have had some reason to naysay the idea. joanie

Been up for 3 years

and we never had a problem, especially with the strong winter winds blowing off Lake Erie. I made a frame out of plastic electrical conduet and one of those silver tarps, it's lasted for 3 years and i'll make a new one for this winter. I want to make some modifications to it and hope that it'll last as long as the other one did.

Is it bad to lay mast along boat?

Since I am working on my boat this summer, I have the mast stepped and one end rests on the bow pulpit, the other end is supported up high in the stern area with a brace. IS this at all bad for the mast? Should I support it in the middle - it is a H25.
