winter sail storage

i have a question. my mast is a roller furling mast (beneteau 321), is the mainsail supposed to come off for off season storage? if so, how do you keep the roller from clattering enough to wake the dead? all suggestions appreciated.thanksd rierson

Yes - remove sail

Removing the sail is simple and should be done. After you disconnect the head of the sail tie on a nylon line and pull the furler block half way up the mast to keep the foil from clattering around.
