Does anybody have info about keeping the boat in the water in the Carolina's for the winter? I'm thinking of taking my Pearson 33 sailboat south next winter. The season is to short in New York.

It would help if you said what part of the carolina's you're specifically interested in. Overall, keeping it in the water in any of the Carolinas shouldn't be too big an issue though.
My boat spent a winter in the Pamlico Sound near Oriental. Lots of big marinas and lots of boats, all in the water. Some nice sailing days even in November and February. Even an occasional one in Dec and Jan. Since I was so far from the boat I did winterize.
The Carolinas are a great place summer or winter. This winter has been a bit colder and wetter than usual but most winters you get nice sailing days all through the cold months. In NC the average high in January is 52. You do get nights down in the 20's and a few in the teens. This year I am on the hard for a bottom paint and topside wax job, just waiting until it warms up a bit to get working :>)

My nephew lives in Charleston SC, and it is a bit warmer, wonderful city, and wonderful harbor. Two marinas on the south side of the city but probably fairly pricey for transient storage. There is also a large marina up by the Yorktown on the North side of the harbor. What is your draft on the boat, another thing to consider?

The moorings are all private and most have been grandfathered. You can throw out a hook there and sit indefinitely. If that hook happens to be a 700 pound anchor I guess you can call it a mooring. There aren't any "transient" rental moorings that I'm aware of. Another good place to drop a hook is core creek on the other side of the draw bridge.
That's a favorite spot of mine, Taylor Creek. Love Beaufort. My boat spent sixteen months up at the north end of the ICW at Matthews Point( http://www.matthewspoint.com/ ). Remote but beautiful spot on a well-protected creek. I like Oriental but it is so hard to get to the beach because of the drive and the ferry. Matthews Point is just up 101 from Beaufort. Easy to get to Ace Hardware in Morehead City, a real chandlery. And "jibes", what's the name of the diner on the corner coming into town?. Great breakfasts.
You mean the Diner across the street from the No Name Pizza Shop?? I can't remember the name of it but if you want a really great breakfast stop in Morehead at the "On a Roll" breakfast and sandwich shop. It is right before you get to the section where the Sanctuary restaurant is. Best breakfast in town that I've found. Another real good one is the Diner on the corner in Atlantic Beach as soon as you cross the ICW high rise bridge from Morehead.
