We are putting our '99- 340 "to bed" 11/15- we're exploring cover options to protect her. Options include: 1. Well tied blue tarps (mold possibility here) approx $75. 2. Shrink wrap- same mold potential (though some are "vented"). $450 approx per year...discard in spring. 3. Invest in a canvas cover (about $2500). 4. Quit job- sail to warmer climate South. I like #4 best. Any suggestions from you all? Joel L

Winter Cover

We had an Ericson which we purchased used and it came with a full canvas cover. The cover was custom made by Fairclough from Connecticut. It was a bear to install, but the clean up in the spring was a breeze and made up for the extra effort in the fall. The Ericson was 10 yrs old when we sold her and the gel coat looked new. I really believe the cover and the gel coat condition sold her. After 6 yrs of use we sold the boat for $1500.00 less than we paid for her.

the best thing to do

sell the house and car - leave the wife - mine hasn't yet!! - leave the kids with the parents and sail south. alternatively take the wife with you and solve all problems. p.s. canvas covers can cause condensation and mildew as well as the plastic ideas. again, go south - it will save you all the worries of winter storage and the worry of what will be found in the spring. take as a tip from an older one. e.b.
