I wish to berth a catalina 30 mk111 1997 wing keel overnight on a drying river bed. It will be tied alongside on soft mud, hopefully on only a slightly inclined river bottom.
Does anyone have actual experience of a wing keel 3'10" draught settling into mud. Pro's and especially cons please.

Every time the wind blows out of the north for more than a few hours and more than 10 knots, our 2001 C-320 is sitting on its 4' 5" wing and rudder in the mud. As long as the hull stays in the water, we don't have to worry about toppling over and all is well.

The biggest issue is that it abrades the ablative paint off them pretty quickly

I have put both the wing and fin keel aground. Both times were in the Fort Myers area. We were able to free the fin by hiking out on the boom and the keel came free and I could back off. The wing was not as easy and hiking out did not work. All I did was dig in the other side of the wing. I had to be towed off.
