I have zero experience with windvanes. I've only briefly looked at ads for them in the back of Sail magazine. But I did want to mention that years ago, I saw a pretty salty looking Catalina 22 with a windvane in Beaufort, NC. This one looked well-used, so I don't think there would be any problem as far as the boat size goes. Price may be the real objection. My understanding is that they aren't cheap. I'll stick with my Autohelm. It does a great job and weighs a heck of lot less than the vanes. Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240
