I have an 85 28.5 that needs the small narrow window above the nav station replaced (plexi-glass). Has anyone ever done this before and where is the best place to find a replacement (may need the trim also depending on how easy the window comes out )? Also can anyone tell me where to find the seal for the window in the lav. Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Don P.

Windows

Don, I am getting ready to do the same thing, only with a twist. I am going to remove the stock window and frame. I am going to replace it with a 3/8 inch window that I will through bolt with stainless hardwear. In The space between the cabin top and cabin liner I will install wood fillers and epoxy. i will use 5200 as a seal. I am still working out some details but I think it will be much better looking, sronger and water tight. Email me if you are interested in this at MAXXWILK@CS.COM Scott

You can get the plexiglas cut at most platics suppliers in any large city. It is a bear to do yourself unless you have a band saw or a real good router. Exact replacement trim is probably not easy to come by, but most large hardware stores carry a variety of aluminum trim. I would not recommend using 5200 since it is such a strong adhesive as well as caulk. Good luck

Mark Plastics

I replaced both side windows (port and starboard) recently. There is a company in Calif called Mark Plastics (369 East Harrison Street, Unit G Corona, California 91719 909-735-7705 Phone 909-735-0701 Fax) who made the original windows and made exact replacements for about $150-200 (I don't remember exactly). Installation was easy (actually I enlarged the opening because I'm adding additional opening ports forward and I wanted the sizes to match visually); remove the old window, put in the new, caulk the trim ring, and screw it down. Mark was very helpful and I recommend him highly. Alan

Cutting plastics

You might try call Acme Plastics in Paterson NJ. A month or two back a fellow had his new Lexan companion way hatch boards cut by them. I'd think that they should be able to handle this too.

Most any glass company has the plexiglass or lexan you need and will cut to order, some will even put in frame for you.

More than one way to skin a cat but....

I agree with Alan. Mark Plasitics has the exact replacments for your boat. Also I am not sure that 5200 is a very good solution here. I'd contact Hunter on this one. I believe that 3M makes an adhesvie/caulk for this exact purpose. Remember, this may need to be done again and 5200 is VERY difficult to remove. Also as the boat flexs you want something that we go with the flow.

Acme Plastics in West Paterson, NJ

In his 8/11 reply to you, "Cutting plastics", Jim McCue mentions Acme Plastics, actually located in West Paterson, NJ. I am the person to whom he refers who recently replaced companionway boards with lexan. Acme has every possible type of material, every color and thickness, custom cut to order. Call 973-256-6666 and ask for Steve. Remind him that he did my companionway boards in May. He did a fantastic job at an extremely reasonable cost.
