window seals

Wilhelm,
You wanted window seals.
You can buy them from VEGA MARIN AB in Sweden. The best way to
contact them is by fax. If you are in north america the number is
011 46 31 2924 49. They will fax you the price. Best way to pay is
credit card. Shipping takes a couple of weeks to Canada. I think
you can also buy the seals from Steve Birch in England, he has
messages on here all the time. Steve also sells new windows with
aluminum frames but that is a rather expensive option.

You have to tell the number of your boat because there are two sizes
of groove. Vega Marin also sells a tool for installation. You will
need one, but I would advise getting a professional to do it, someone
who is used to installing car windows. It is quite a difficult job.

If you are in n. america you might be tempted to buy some automobile
sealing strip but do not risk it. The closest size available is just
a little different from the European/vega strip and it will almost
certainly leak.

Our web-parent on this Yahoo site will be putting the Vega Marin
catalogue into a file, as soon as he has time.

Hello John:

Thank you so very much for your help; I own my VEGA 257 over 26 years,
and yes,
the windows do start to leak, requiring frequent attention. I plan to
paint the topside
this Fall or Winter, and at the same time replace the seals.
I'll follow up your advise and contact VEGA MARIN in Sweden and then
tell you about
the progress.
Thanks again;

Hi.:
I think VEGA MARIN is closed down for the Summer; I remember some time
back when I
tried to contact them and found out the whole 'kidd'nkabudl' just closes
down for Summer
Vacation. I'll try to contact them again sometimes October; it does not
matter too much for me since
I don't plan to work on the boat before December.

Hello John;
I've contacted VEGA MARIN AB and their answer was that they no longer
have that window seal.
Do you have an address or phone/fax # from Steve Birch in England by any
chance?
Your help is very appreciated.

Friends -

Have had 1061 "Mir" (russian for "peace", I'm told) about a year and have been following all postings but this is my first reply. I, too, have leaky windows so I called Lawrence at the 800 number in LA. They, without prompting, asked where I was calling from. When I said Miami they gave me the address of a Lawrence store in Orlando which carries the moldings and chrome strip: 6950 Presidents Drive. I was not alert enough to also ask for the phone number, sorry.

Has anyone actually installed these particular moldings from JR Lawrence? How tricky is it really? Did they make a good seal? How long have they lasted since installation?

Sebastian - Where are you located? Our hull numbers are consecutive, I'd love to compare notes/boats!

Hi Brian

Not able to get the window seals anymore but I have seen from the Yahoo group that it is available from the USA. I will have a look at the back postings and see what I can find.
