I'm cleaning up the windows of my 1981 Catalina 27 (4844). Remove, repair and re-install. Here is my question. Is it OK to remove all the windows and frames all together or do the windows have to be done individually? The reason I ask, my brother said, with all the windows out it can cause loss of integrity to the upper cabin and distortion. My gut feeling is that you should be able to remove all the windows...to rely on the windows as part of the whole structural integrity, that they would cause the cabin to buckle or bend out of 'true' seems wrong. Your input is appreciated.

I did it...

In my 1973 C27 I pulled all the windows and walked on the cabin top w/o problems and I am not a little guy. I was only midly sucessful at making may windows leak free but that is because a PO must have doen it one and damaged a lot of fiberglass and there was little for me to work with in spots. Good luck!

Thanks

I'm 200 plus myself and I feel secure that without the windows things are just fine. My brother (younger) has always been overly cautious. I talked to a well seasoned boater today and told him of my concern and he said excactly what I felt, that there should be NO effect. Thanks Again for your input!

I have a 1981 cat. as well and have 2 windows that leak. Therefore I would be interested in knowing how you made out and where you obtained some of your supplies such as the exterior rubber mouldings.
