Window Gasket Yet Again

Folks,I have to relay to you all that I finally did it, replaced all the old gaskets with new one on the existing windows (ports) of the Vega. In truth, it was difficult but with the right tools it can be done, and once you get the hang of it, you can do it relatively easily. If you want more information on what I did, just drop me an email at halandcindy@... and I'll respond. All you will need is the VW locking stip/gaskets, the locking strip tool, an angle awe, soapy water and four hands!!!! EASY!!! Sort of. Cheers, Hal

Nic,I was warned against using silicon as it leaves a residue in the gasket, while hot water will completely evaporate (sometimes while you are putting things in, thus the need to keep a soap spray bottle on hand during instillation). Not sure if the warning was "valid" but I found that the window and locking strip went in just fine with just soapy water... Hal

I've read that silicone gets into the gelcoat and that presents a problem for subsequent painting. That hasn't prevented me from using silicone on the rubber parts of my truck.Alan
