Due to medical issues I need to have an electric windless installed. Can someone tell me what model I should be purchasing? Thank you.

Lofrans

I have a 336, which would weight a bit less than your boat. After alot of research, I bought a Lofrans electric windlass and am very happy with it. The 3 main reasons why I chose this make and model were: 1) Low profile - the capstain will take both line and chain, it only protrudes about 4" above the deck and 6" below (others, such as Muir windlasses projected almost 6" more below decks, into the v-berth area. 2) Power/weight ratio - the Lofrans has great pulling power and was no heavier than any other unit I looked at. 3) Price - the Lofrans was cheaper than the Muir and about equal with Lewmar and Simpson-Lawrence. Hope this helps.

I would check the files at www.practical-sailor.com, for any of their articles on a windlass for your boat. They usually have a good discussion on models, load calculations, wiring, etc.

Spirit for me

Due to my medical ailments, I also am installing a windlass on my 37.5 (almost the same boat as yours.) I bought a Spirit off Ebay and got a real deal. I believe it's made by Simpson Lawrence or one of the big guys. There is a pic of one installed here on HOW just behind the anchor locker. That's what I'm going for.
