The rubber button up/down foot switches on my windlass work intermittantly. Are they repairable or only replaceable? I haven't taken them apart to see if the contacts are corroded, sealed with no access, or just plain shot. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem with their switches and what was the solution? Dan Hunter 45

Dan, I took our switch apart a few years...

ago when I was trouble shooting a windlass problem. The switch was fine, but when I separated the unit, the small spring-loaded pin and spring inside shot out and dropped down into the bilge area where I could not reach it. Maxwell sent me replacement parts free of charge. It may just need cleaning and some lubrication inside. Just use care when taking it apart. You might want to remove the unit from the boat, or perhaps do it in the cabin. Ours had a similar symptom before I took it apart and now it works fine. Terry

Dan This has happen to me several times. You just need to take the switch apart and clean the contact. 5 or 10 min. job. Be sure that some of the parts don't fly out!
