I would see what Hunter put in that model as an option. Trouble is....many manufactures might use different deck molds to accommodate a Windlass as apposed to the buyer who does not want one. Hunter can verify that as well. If there is no platform offered in the non windlass mold (if that is the case), then you have to deal with installing a platform too (and it has to be able to withstand a lot of sheer pull).

The owner's manual for our 99 H340 lists an optional windlass:
Simpson Lawrence SL00605167

Thanks for your input
Looks like I will try to find the specs on the Simpson Lawrence and match it to a Lewmar.

I'd be interesting in seeing where you plan to put it. From hanging out on Yachtworld way too long looking for inspiration, I've seen 336/340's with a windlass mounted on deck aft of the anchor well on a reinforced plate, as well as inside the aft end of the anchor well, with a hole cut in the locker lid for clearance. The installation diagram from Hunter for our boat shows that they recommended installing a windlass forward of the anchor welll, which required cutting off the aft foot or so of the bow rolller assembly mounting plate.

Robert, that may be one of the differences between the 336 and 340. Picture is looking down on the windlass mounting pad inside the anchor locker. I assume but don't know for sure how this pad is reinforced for mounting the windlass, but this explains the low profile windlass Hunter spec'd for the 340 - to be able to close the locker cover. The round object is the water fill.

Yes, that is a bit different. If I remember correctly, the well on the 336 (I don't have a picture and I'm not on the boat) has that shelf, but definitely not the extended area to use as a mounting base. I've seen one of those low profile Lewmar windlasses installed on that shelf in a 336, and they had to cut a circular hole in the locker lid to let the top of the gypsy protrude. It didn't look bad actually, sort of like it was a custom install. Ours also has a flat bottom with an installed drain, rather than that deeper dropoff toward the bow. Also, our water fill is outside the locker on the starboard toerail just aft of the bow roller assembly. I know there are a lot of other subtle differences as well, some of which were inprovements based on things they decided weren't quite right on the 336, and others that were definitely cost cutting to continue to meet a price point during a time of moderate inflation. I'd think I'd like to have an arch, but I really don't care for those support rods at the lower mast. Ducking under the lower shroud as you go forward isn't that onerous, and I use our forward handrails to tie the dingy down on the bow.
