I have a 1985 40' Hunter Sailboat and I am contemplating installing a windlass. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has accomplished putting in a windlass in this boat or a similar boat or has any ideas. The problem that I face is that the anchor well is very shallow and the cover for it takes up the entire bow of the boat. I have been investigating different models and styles of windlass. However, none of the windlasses can be installed without major changes in the anchor well or the front cabin. Ideas and comments are welcome.

There are two H40s in the Hunter Owners Mods with windlasses. Only one actually shows the installation. What is under the locker? Is the bottom part of the v-berth? On my H37C I added a hawse pipe right down to the keel. That left the anchor locker empty so that I could put the windlass in the locker.
