Windlass on 1989 H 33?

Has anyone installed a windlass on a Hunter 33? The anchor well is pretty shallow, the roller furling drum is in the anchor well, and there is no bowsprit (sp?). The door covering the anchor well cannot take the stress. I'm purplexed, but really want a windlass. My current one complains too much and can make my life hell.Any suggestions?

Glenn:On my 1980 H33, the prior owner had installed a manual windlass just forward of the anchor locker that was mounted to the deck. The anchor was housed in a bow stem assembly with the roller furling drum mounted on the aft end of the stem assembly. A little cut out was made in the anchor locker door to accommodate the rode feed to the windlass./cs/v Twilight, H410

I have a 1981 h37c. Do not install a horix windlsss in the well, it will not have enough wrap angle on drum. Could cut cover and reenforce/lock down the front to mount there, use rear of well as well or put in channel to bottom for rode.totally lock down cover and reenforce permanent witrh backing plate.I plan a horizontal Ideal Windlass (best rating for quality in practical sailor) - horiz so I will have push/pull manual back up.jerry

Silencing Windlass Complaints

I have a 1992 Hunter 335 without a mechanical windlass. I don't have any advice to you on the installation of one. However, I've found the best way of silencing the non-mechanical windlass is to put her at the helm and haul the anchor myself. This can't be good seamanship, but it does take some of the hell out of my life. Good luck!
