Our recently purchased Hunter came with a electric windlass ( what a blessing). It is a Simpson Lawrence (Lewmar) Sprint model. What I haven't been able to figure out is how to release the clutch so that the anchor can be manually raised in the event of a loss of power. I've tried loosing the center nut atop the windlass ( ie counter clock wise with the winch handle) but still unable to get the windlass to move. Electrically it works fine but I'd like having a manual backup. Appreciate any suggestions on what I might be missing. Thanks

Frank, From memory the windlass has an allen screw down the centre spindle where the winch handle fits. It also comes with an allen key which has a blue plastic tee bar handle. I believe one uses this to release the drive system from the motor and then it is possible to crank the windlass by putting the winch handle in the star shaped hole in the warping drum top rim. The ratchet still operates in this mode. Lowering is then via the clutch, though I always reverse motor mine. Hope my memory is still good! If you don't have the manual you might try looking on the web. SL and Lewmar are one company now. I just Googled "Simpson Lawrence Windlass" and found the allen key on:- http://www.slspares.co.uk/Anchorman-Power-Windlass.html it is on the Anchorman Power page not the Sprint 1500 page. Part number 6044575 £12.50 but any long series allen key would suffice.
