There is no Catalina owner with a windlass in a 30' Catalina? I plan on doing this installation myself. I seen the windlass inside a anchor locker once in the passed. Just need an idea, something to put together for a plan. I would not hold anyone responsible for the information, just need a helping hand. I would appreciate any help.

Windlass

I have an 89 Cat 30 with a factory installed windlass, so it can be done.

Picture of Windlass

Larry, I have what I believe is a factory installed windlass on my 1989 Cat 30. I am the 3rd owner so I can't be sure. The windlass literature that was on the boat is for a Maxwell-Nilsson VC-400/VC-600 (S-400/S-60) models. I'm not sure which model I have. The manufacturer, Maxwell Marine is in Takapuna, Auckland, NZ.

Patrick

Thank you Patrick for the photo & info. Question to get to the motor, is there a cover inside the cabin, over the v-bunk? Could you see the motor over the v-bunk?

Access to the Motor

Access to the motor is behind a removable panel over the forward end of the V-berth. If I had time I'd take another photograph, but I'm off on a two week business trip.

Larry: My windlass was mounted on the deck just aft of the anchor locker. The motor was on the ceiling of the front V berth but after a while I never even noticed it. It is a great addition, which really saves your back.

Thank You Don

Don, I don't know if I can get use to seeing the motor on the ceiling of the V-berth. I'm probably going to install the windlass inside the anchor locker as shown by Patrick Connor's photo in this tread. Could anybody give me a photo of the removable panel over the V-berth, inside the cabin?

lewmar proseries 700

Larry I am in the process of installing a lewmar proseries horizontal windlass. I will be installing it over the forward 6 inches of the anchor locker lid which will be cut off and permenantly fixed . THe aft 18" of the lid will remain able to be openned. THe hawse pipe hole should line up with the existing anchor chain hole. I'll try to take some photos and post them. Fred Ficcara has a site with some pics (hunter 34) with a similar install.pic 61 - 63 http://www.boattest.com/46/detail.aspx Larry this site has a video about installing this windlass. I like the horizontal type - no huge hole in the fordeck over the vberth.

Thank You Tomfoolery

Looks like another way of installing it. I looked at that 34 Hunter site and I"m interested. I will be interested when you install yours, any pictures will be helpful. Thanks Larry
