I want to install a windlass to my 38-200 and there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do this below decks using the available anchor locker space under the locker basin. Has anyone had experience with this?
I thought the 38-200 came with a windlass above deck (as with my 1989 38-200) and am wondering if there are benefits to doing this. Also, I will include my email address as there aren't many Ericson 38's around the Vancouver/Victoria BC area to share problems and solutions. I'm a fairly recent owner and would like to know more about parts and services offered in this area. Thanksalbertmurphy@telus.net
The installation I have seen on the E38-200 either modify the anchor locker by reinforcing and fiberglassing the deck hatch to the deck and modifying the locker below, or mounting the windlass aft of the locker, using some of the V-berth headroom, and directing the chain behind and below the locker. One way or another... a lot of work but I'm sure worth it.
There is another Ericson List that is much better than this one in that it has a lot more info and a larger number of owners subscribed. I monitor both this one and www.ericsonyachts.org Many others with 38-200's and windlass options.
