I've been thinking about installing an anchor windlass on my 322. Because of the placement of the forward, shallow anchor rode locker, I am think of locating the windlass aft of the locker. The problem I am finding is that all the horizontal windlasses that I've researched have a through the deck tube feed for the anchor line and chain which would in the case of the 322 make the V berth the anchor line locker. Does anyone know of a windlass model that would be suitable on the foredeck of a sailboat (low profile) which will discharge the line on the deck so that it could be coiled into the existing locker? I use a 35 lb. CQR with 20 feet of chain and 250' of 5/8" nylon. Thanks. Bill

SAIL MAGAZINE

Bill, there is an article with drawings in the February/03 Sail on page 100. From what it looks like, the windlass folds over when not in use and allows room from rode storage. Might give you some ideas. Good Luck

Don't know how the 322

differs from the 37, but you might take a look at my windlass installation photos in the photo forum.
