I have a 1998 Hunter 410 with a Lewmar Windlass Concept low profile type with chain, not sure what size but it's been on the boat for a while. See pic attached. The chain, when under heavy load, slips like mad. The bottom of the Chesapeake Bay is clayish and that is pretty slipepry too. I don't know if there is a way to tighten the windlass, I have a handle but it seems pretty tight already.

Any ideas?

The windlass shouldn't ever be under load except when you are using it. It isn't to hold the anchor when deployed! But when was the last time you took it apart, cleaned and lubed it?

Hi Don, thanks for the manual. I just bought the boat last September so I've never had the windlass apart and have added that to my todo list. It's probably s good ide.

By the way, I don't keep the windlass under load, once the anchor is set I put on snubber line, the only time it is under any load is when weighing anchor and pulling the anchor in. At this point though, I am usually pulling the chain manually and fussing with the windlass.
