Just about didn't get my 35#cqr plus chain aboard for my poor body gave out. Any help or suggestions on how and where to install an anchor windlas on a Hunter 34 will be appreciated. Thanks,Charlie
Muir anchor winches (see website) make a model, VRC1200 which will do the job for you. Vertical mount just at the rear of your anchor locker. The chain will be flaked into the locker without a hawse pipe. The winch will be partially enclosed in the ceiling of the v berth. This should ensure a long life as it is dry. The low profile chain gypsy on deck is about 4 inches high I believe.
I too am considering adding a windlass to our 34, Escapade. If you locate the windlass aft of the locker, you would have to open the anchor locker in order for the rode to pay into it. This would also require some form of catch or hasp to retain the open door. Doesn't seem like too elequent an installation. Has anyone actually installed a windlass on a 34? How did you do it?
