Windlas for a 92 tall rig 30

I just purchased a 92 Catalina 30 and want to install a windlas. Inside the anchor locker ther ia a moulded shelf ( fully enclosed ) Was this done to facilitate a windlas and if so what brand as it leaves little room above when the lid is closed also the chain and rhode would have to go right around to feed into the locker as its moulded to the back. Any information would be of interest.

Faller,Great question. It gets asked several times a year and an archive search results in no real answers. Lots of advice about how to raise an anchor without one and why you dont need it , etc but this is on my to do list this winter but I still have not figured out how I will do it. At age 60 with 80 feet of chain linked to a nylon rode, it is HEAVY pulling if you are anchored in anything but shallow water. I recall seeing one photo on a link of one mounted on the top of the platform which protruded out a hole cut in the anchor well cover and through a feed into the well. If anyone else out there has done it I would like to know how and see pictures if possible.Thanks,DavidFour Feathers.
