I purchased a Raytheon ST40 Wind System and need advice regarding the installation of the Rotavecta transducer on the Selden mast of my Hunter 320. Specifically, what additional hardware do I need, if any, to attach the unit to the mast and what location on the mast would be best? The instructions seem to indicate that I need to attach something to the mast to which the unit will be clamped. There is also the direction that it be kept a distance from the antenna on the mast. Any advice?

I made a bracket...

I made a bracket for my 320. I don't really like the way it turned out, and will probably make a different arrangement this year if I have enough time before launch. The problem I had was making the transducer parallel to the mast when the top was angled, and still keeping it away from the VHF. I ended up putting a 90 on the forward mast top, extending it out about 12" using an aluminum tube, and then bringing that upwith a 120 degree angle block to attach the transducer bracket. Not to pretty, but it worked. If you come up with something different, I would be interested in seeing it. Steve

Thanks, Steve, for your information. I returned the unit. I was not happy with the situation and will forego the pleasure of an instrument which tells me which way (and how fast)the wind is apparently blowing for now.

installation

Hi how hard was it to install your unit ,did you have to demast or can you run the cable in side the mast with stilled rigged , I have a 290 that I would like to install and was told that I would have to demast to run the cable in the mast so not to make noise or interfear with any halyards is this true.

Install response to Nick

Nick, The wiring in the mast has a seperate channel in my 320, in fact, one on each side of the main sail track. There is no way it could interfer with the halyards. Depending on what size your VHF cable and masthead wiring are will make the wind cable easy or hard. I did mine while it was horizontial, but I whould think it could be done while up. The problem as I mentioned before, the angle on the mast head does not allow for quick and easy mounting. It may require a few trips up and down. Good luck, Steve
